Welcome to New York Urban. These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your access to and use of NewYorkUrban.com and the websites, pages, tools, features, content, data, artificial intelligence features, newsletters, and other services that link to these Terms (collectively, the "Services").
By accessing or using the Services, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Services. Additional terms may apply to particular features and will be presented where relevant.
1. About New York Urban
New York Urban is an independent city information, community resource, and city guide platform. It provides information about New York City, including events, neighborhoods, attractions, restaurants, transportation, weather, public resources, editorial guides, and other city-related information.
New York Urban is not an official government website and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or operated by the City of New York, NYC.gov, any New York City agency, the State of New York, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, or any other government or public authority unless expressly stated for a specific collaboration.
2. Informational Purpose; Verify Official Information
The Services are provided for general informational, planning, and discovery purposes. We aim to use reliable sources, but city information can change quickly and may be delayed, incomplete, unavailable, or inaccurate.
Important information — including emergencies, government requirements, permits, applications, payments, transportation status, public-health information, legal obligations, closures, and official notices — should be verified directly with the responsible government agency or other official source before you act on it.
New York Urban does not process government payments, issue permits, adjudicate tickets, provide emergency services, or act on behalf of any government agency.
3. Eligibility and Acceptable Use
You may use the Services only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms. You are responsible for your use of the Services and for any information you submit.
- Use the Services in a manner that violates applicable law or the rights of others.
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to accounts, systems, databases, administrative areas, APIs, or security controls.
- Interfere with, overload, damage, disable, or disrupt the Services or the systems that support them.
- Use automated tools to scrape, harvest, or extract the Services in a manner that violates applicable law, access controls, robots directives, or reasonable technical restrictions.
- Submit malicious code, fraudulent content, spam, deceptive requests, or instructions intended to compromise an AI or data system.
- Misrepresent New York Urban content as an official statement of the City of New York or another government body.
- Use the Services to infringe intellectual-property, privacy, publicity, contractual, or other rights.
4. Live Data, Open Data, and Third-Party Information
Some New York Urban features may display or summarize information obtained from government open-data portals, transportation feeds, weather services, event providers, mapping providers, public agencies, venue sources, business data providers, and other third parties.
Third-party data remains subject to the terms, licenses, availability, and limitations of the applicable source. We may normalize, organize, cache, combine, summarize, or display such data to make it more useful, but we do not guarantee that it is complete, current, or error-free.
Where practical, we display source names, links, timestamps, or "last updated" information so visitors can assess freshness and verify important details.
5. Events, Businesses, Restaurants, and Places
Event times, admission prices, availability, venue information, restaurant hours, inspection information, attraction details, and similar information can change without notice. Before traveling, purchasing tickets, making reservations, or relying on a listing, verify material details with the official organizer, venue, business, agency, or linked source.
A listing, ranking, mention, map placement, or recommendation does not constitute an endorsement, certification, warranty, or guarantee by New York Urban. Where a listing is sponsored, we will seek to identify it clearly as sponsored or advertising content.
6. Transportation, Traffic, Weather, and Alerts
Transit, traffic, bike-share, ferry, weather, air-quality, and city-alert information may be time-sensitive. Feeds may be delayed, interrupted, or changed by their source providers. Always follow instructions from official authorities and transportation operators when there is a conflict between New York Urban and an official source.
For emergencies, call 911. For appropriate non-emergency municipal services in New York City, contact NYC 311 or use the official NYC 311 channels.
7. Artificial Intelligence Features
New York Urban may provide AI-powered features, including the New York AI Guide, itinerary or day-planning tools, search assistance, recommendations, summaries, and editorial-assistance features.
AI output can be inaccurate, incomplete, outdated, or inappropriate for a particular situation. AI responses are not official government communications and are not a substitute for professional, legal, medical, emergency, financial, or other expert advice.
Do not submit passwords, payment card numbers, Social Security numbers, government account credentials, or other highly sensitive information into AI features. Verify important information using the linked primary or official source.
8. Automated and Editorial Content
New York Urban may use automated systems and artificial intelligence to assist with data processing, categorization, drafting, summaries, recommendations, list-style guides, and publication workflows. Where appropriate, articles may identify their sources and may include a disclosure when automated tools materially assisted in creating the content.
Editorial rankings and recommendations are based on available data, editorial criteria, relevance, timing, geography, and other factors. They are not guarantees of quality or suitability for every user.
9. External Links and Third-Party Services
The Services contain links to government websites and other third-party services. Those websites are independent from New York Urban. Their own terms, privacy policies, accessibility practices, security practices, and service conditions apply.
We do not control third-party websites and are not responsible for their content, availability, transactions, security, or privacy practices. A link does not necessarily imply endorsement.
10. Intellectual Property
Except for third-party materials, public data, licensed content, and other materials identified as belonging to others, the New York Urban name, site design, original text, graphics, software, layout, compilations, and other original materials are owned by or licensed to New York Urban and are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws.
You may access and use the Services for personal, informational, and other lawful purposes. You may not reproduce, republish, sell, distribute, create a competing database from, or commercially exploit substantial portions of our original content or software without permission, except as permitted by law.
11. User Submissions and Feedback
You may be able to submit feedback, corrections, accessibility reports, contact messages, or other information. You represent that you have the right to submit the material and that it is not unlawful, misleading, malicious, or infringing.
You grant New York Urban a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, reproduce, modify, and display submitted material as reasonably necessary to operate, improve, moderate, or respond through the Services. This license does not transfer ownership of your content to us.
12. Newsletter and Communications
If you voluntarily subscribe to a newsletter or similar update, we may send the communications you requested. You may unsubscribe using the link provided in the message or another method we make available. Transactional or service messages may not be subject to marketing opt-out when they are necessary to provide a requested service.
13. Advertising and Sponsorships
New York Urban may introduce advertising, sponsorships, affiliate relationships, or promoted content in the future. Advertising and sponsored content will be designed to remain distinguishable from government-resource links, emergency information, and independent editorial or live-data content.
The presence of an advertisement does not mean that the City of New York or any government agency endorses the advertiser, and an advertiser does not become an official government resource by appearing on New York Urban.
14. Service Availability and Changes
We may add, modify, suspend, restrict, or discontinue any feature, source, integration, or part of the Services at any time. External APIs and data sources may also change or become unavailable without notice.
We may correct errors, remove stale information, archive expired events, change rankings, or update content without prior notice.
15. No Warranties
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Services are provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. New York Urban disclaims warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, statutory, or otherwise, including warranties of accuracy, completeness, availability, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and uninterrupted operation.
Nothing in these Terms excludes warranties or rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.
16. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, New York Urban and its operators, affiliates, contractors, licensors, data providers, and service providers will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for loss arising from reliance on inaccurate or unavailable information, missed events, travel disruption, third-party services, external links, data-feed failures, or AI-generated output.
Where applicable law does not permit certain limitations of liability, those limitations apply only to the extent legally permitted.
17. Indemnification
To the extent permitted by law, you agree to be responsible for claims, losses, liabilities, and reasonable costs arising from your unlawful misuse of the Services, your violation of these Terms, or your infringement of another person's rights. This provision does not apply where prohibited by applicable consumer law.
18. Suspension and Termination
We may restrict or terminate access to particular features if we reasonably believe a user is abusing the Services, attempting to compromise security, violating these Terms, or creating material risk to the platform or others.
19. Governing Law and Disputes
These Terms are governed by applicable law. To the extent legally permitted, disputes will be resolved in the jurisdiction applicable to the operator of New York Urban, unless mandatory consumer-protection law requires a different forum or governing law.
20. Severability and No Waiver
If a provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in effect to the extent permitted by law. A failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of the right to enforce it later.
21. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms as the Services, laws, providers, or business practices change. The "Last Updated" date above will be revised when changes are made. If a change is material, we may provide additional notice where required or appropriate.
22. Contact
Questions about these Terms may be submitted through the New York Urban contact page.
